Father’s Blessings

Daddio often helps us start out any big event in our life with a Father’s blessing. This not only shows us that he stands behind us and supports us, but it also lets us know that our Father in Heaven is there supporting us and cheering for us, as well. A Father’s Blessing is personal revelation for us received through our father. It often has guidance and comfort in it; much like a Patriarchal Blessing. We receive Father’s Blessings before every new school semester; this is the most consistent and most often one that we count on. It is one that we all count on for support, strength and comfort. Brother J also remembers getting one before he left on his mission, “I sure am glad we have these. They mean a lot. Remember the one I got before I left on my mission? It was pretty long and I was crying through the whole thing, but I didn’t want to wipe my face in the middle so by the end I had snot streaming down my face. I was kind of dumb.” Well thanks Brother J for such a deep insight. I too, remember the time Josh got his Father’s Blessing before he embarked on his mission. This was the first time that Mom offered to send me to Israel to wail at the Wailing Wall. She figured she could make big bucks; after all, they do pay people if they wail as good as I do. This was the first time the Wailing of Charis was heard. Mom commented that she didn’t remember having a Father’s Blessing. She doesn’t think Grandpa Martin was comfortable with this type of stuff, and she feels like she missed out. She is very glad that she has a husband that is more willing to do this and glad that her kids are more willing to ask for one when we need one. Father’s Blessings don’t just happen at set times. It is a comfort to know that any time we are struggling or feel like we need extra help we can request a Father’s Blessing. And it is great to know that we can do that at any time because our father is always worthy to do so. Father’s Blessings have helped us all in times of need, and have given us the confidence needed to accomplish the task. Through these we know that our earthly father loves us and our Heavenly Father loves us as well.
