Baby Blessings

Wherefore, because of my blessing the Lord God will not suffer that ye shall perish; wherefore, he will be merciful unto you and unto your seed forever. 2 Nephi 4:7

Traditions are an important part of who we are and what we are. The first tradition that we come in contact with is probably our baby blessing. Mom commented that she didn’t remember anything about her own blessing so she tried really hard to make all her children’s baby blessings a more memorable event (he he he) by having a big lunch with all our aunts and uncles and cousins. She even bought each of us our own special baby blessing clothes. These are probably the only clothes that any of us ever owned that weren’t worn by someone else at one time or another these were strictly our clothes. Even with as much effort as Mom put in some how Mom doesn’t think any of us remember our own baby blessings. She may be right. I don’t remember my own blessing, though, I do remember everyone from Brother N's blessing on down. Blessings are so important that even Theodore in his short life time received a name and a blessing from Dad. Blessings at our house were always a big deal. All of our cousins, grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles came to church to see us blessed by our father. All of the worthy priesthood holders in our family would stand in the circle and hold the child while Daddio blessed us. After sacrament meeting was over we would all go over to our house to have lunch. It was always grand to have all the cousins over what ever the excuse was. And although I don’t remember my own baby blessing, the effort Mom and Dad put into making everyone else’s baby blessing a big event showed us how important this new addition into our family was. It also reconfirmed to us as individuals that Mom and Dad love us too. We knew that we were all just as important as newest child.
