And it came to pass in those days,
that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee,
and was baptized of John in Jordan.
- Mark 1:9
At age eight, everyone in our family has chosen to get baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This tradition is a standard set as a righteous tradition for all members of the Church by the scriptures. Dad has preformed the sacred ordinance of baptizing for every single one of us. He has also confirmed us a member of the church, and bestowed the gift of the Holy Ghost on us. Dad says that he has reserved this privilege for himself, because he wanted to set the example to his sons as a father with the priesthood. He hopes that his sons will gain the desire to live their lives worthy to baptize their own children as well. Like at blessings all worthy priesthood holders in the extended family are invited to stand in the priesthood circle to place their hands on our head during the confirmation.
Baptisms are similar to blessings, in other ways. In our family, the entire extended family comes to our baptisms. After the ordinance is completed everyone gathers at our house for lunch and a family gathering.
This is a great time to show the person getting baptized how much they really are loved and cared for, not only in the immediate family but also in the extended family as well. This is our special day, probably the most important day in our life and everyone gathers together to celebrate it with us.
